Financial Scandal: Raiffeisen Bank Accused of Backing Alkagesta’s Oil Smuggling Network
An online press outlet has collected all the articles and documents published about Alkagaesta, the big oil trader in Malta that is accused of selling contraband Libyan oil in Malta and Hurd’s Bank. The news article with the documents can be found here. Alkagesta denies these accusations.
The batch of documents can be found here. These documents still need to be analysed, but at first sight, the documents show that Alkagesta is using Raiffeisen Bank in Austria as its banker. It is also using other more unknown banks in Switzerland. Raiffeisen Bank has been already featured in our stories as Europe’s last remaining bank in Russia. The bank is from Austria.
Alkagesta does in fact trade with Russian-speaking counter-parties.
LLoyd’s List has recently published a list of ships that are loading oil from Benghazi and then selling it at Hurd’s Bank.
